How We Buy Diamonds

Oshawa Jewellery is not like your usual jewellery store!  Since we are family owned and operated, and have decades of jewellery and diamond industry experience, we have the ability to purchase our diamonds a little differently than other jewellers.

Every diamond we have in our extensive diamond inventory  is hand selected by our buyers.  We don’t have a ‘Head Office’ to ship us random stones.  Each diamond goes through an intensive evaluation process before we actually purchase it.  We work with ‘hands-on’ diamond merchants who, much like us, take the care to inspect each and every potential stone before they purchase diamonds from the large diamond sight-holders for their inventories.  For instance, if one of our buyers goes on a buying trip to a major diamond center (India, Belgium, Israel, etc.), they can look at thousands of individual diamonds.  Of each thousand stones the buyer looks at, they will purchase about 10%, so 100 stones.  When we go to purchase from them we are already looking at the 100 diamonds that have passed through their trained eyes and evaluations.  Of the 100 stones we would buy maybe the top  2 to 5 diamonds from them.  Thus the diamonds that find themselves in our inventory are there because they posses a unique quality unlike most other diamonds.

Not every diamond we buy is purchase because it is of top or near perfect quality.  These stones are very rare and command higher prices.  Though we do buy these stones and can definitely source the ‘best of the best’ diamonds in the market, we pride ourselves on finding those rare gems that are beautiful and are of great VALUE for you, our valued customer.  Please come in and discuss any diamond purchase with one of our knowledgeable diamond specialists.  They can walk you through diamond basics and make sure that you find the right rock(s) for your special gem!
